The Hague Affair
Spacious exhibition area, intriguingly named The Gray Space in the Middle, awaits nine hundred steps and one pair of headphones away from Grote Markt. This venue changed quite a few names over the years, but it always had a similar purpose – to host out-of-the-ordinary events related to art, technology, and philosophy.
For a month, from 12 April until 12 May, The Gray Space is a starting point for an unusual city tour. Instead of streets and monumental buildings, Firma Mes takes you for a walk through your own thoughts. With headphones on, you wonder through the city, first in a group, then alone. The tour is called the Affair and is advertised as “a unique audio experience through The Hague”.
The MES Theater Group creates special theater performances, giving the spectators a chance to become active participants in their shows. A previous guided tour, started at the bar of the famous Mayfair brothel in Zeeheldenkwartier. The audience visited 15 rooms, each offering a different theatrical pleasure – monologues, seductive dances, or songs. Their sold-out play IJS & VIS (Ice cream and Fish) used unusual industrial setting, dance and acting to tell a story of two families, famous for their Florencia ice cream and Simonis fish.
