Sochi in The Hague

There are still two weeks left until Movies That Matter Festival , an initiative of Amnesty International and the Netherlands’ main platform for engaged cinema. But before watching the movies that will for sure stir debate about human rights, be sure to check the selection of photographs from The Sochi Project, work of the acclaimed photographer Rob Hornstra and writer/filmmaker Arnold van Bruggen. Hornstra’s photos will be on display in the Atrium of The Hague City Hall from 4 to 29 March 2013. Exhibition is the result of the collaboration between Stichting Atrium and the Movies that Matter Festival.

Hornstra‘The Sochi Project’ is a mix of documentary photography, film and reportage about a life full of different realities within a specific geographic area of Sochi in Russia. As Sochi hosts 22nd Olympic Winter Games, the area is going through the extreme makeover and refugee settlements are leaving the space for more glamorous scenery.

Photos from ‘The Sochi Project’ depict the residents of Sochi and their changing surroundings.
